How we work on heritage fabric
Heritage remediation lives in the tension between conservation principles and structural necessity. Cement-rich repairs destroy breathable masonry; modern membranes trap moisture in walls that were designed to dry; and an over-scoped “restoration” can strip the significance out of the fabric it meant to save.
Our approach: analyse before specifying (mortar and render analysis so repointing and patch repairs match the original in composition and performance, not just colour), intervene minimally (repair over replacement, reversible systems where conservation policy requires), and document everything for heritage consultants, permit conditions and future custodians.
Where structural intervention is unavoidable — corroded cramps and lintels, failing balconies, seismic or load upgrades — we detail it with the engineer to be as concealed and as removable as the structure allows.
